Music is an important part of school life in terms of learning, creativity and well-being. All children are taught general music skills as well as having weekly whole Key Stage singing sessions.
Children in Year 1 and 2 are taught by a specialist member of our school staff. Children in Years 3-6 are taught by both specialists from Trafford Music Service and their own class teachers. As part of the provision provided by Trafford Music Service, all children in Key Stage 2 have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. The classroom teachers learn the instrument alongside the children which adds to the community of the classroom and also enables the children to see how music is accessible to everyone.
Pupils in Years 1 - 6 also have the opportunity to learn to play the guitar or violin with a peripatetic music teacher. Instrumental tuition (taught in small groups) is delivered at lunchtime and there is a charge for this. Any parent interested in tuition should see the School Office.
Pupils from Year 3 upwards are welcome to join our school choir, there are no auditions and it is a relaxed, fun environment. The choir sing a wide range of songs and pupils have the opportunity to perform not only in school but also at other events through the year in the wider community.
Pupils very much enjoy coming to school... They feel safe in the stimulating environment into which they are warmly welcomed... One pupil stated that, ‘You can be yourself here.’
