At Tyntesfield, we have a modern and exciting approach to languages, which is now a combination of Spanish and French. We have extended MFL provision across the school, and children in KS1 now have access to languages through language clubs and fun bitesize sessions of Six Minute Spanish delivered in the infants’ classrooms. In KS2, they develop their language skills through parcels of Six Minute Spanish in the classroom, and French is delivered by a specialist language teacher. Mrs Macdonald, who has a degree in Spanish, has started a fun, interactive lunchtime KS2 Spanish club to develop and consolidate the children's Spanish.
In 2018, five members of staff (Mrs Gilmour, Ms Stirling, Miss Livingstone, Mrs Wordsworth and Mrs Hartley) all went to Santander in Spain on an Erasmus program to boost our language skills and collect authentic resources to enhance our teaching. It was a fantastic experience, and lead to a wonderful Spanish Day and a renewed passion for teaching languages. We love to make languages appealing and exciting to our pupils by including song, rhyme, videos, Spanish books, and social and cultural experiences such as food tasting (always very popular with the children
